Funding advice
Setting up your own project
Government official or village business entrepreneur: whoever you are you may find setting up your own project a daunting task. One of the key requirements is funding, but help is at hand in many ways. Many government organisations, aid agencies, foundations, and other non-government organisations are willing to look at good projects and consider providing help if the case for this is well described. The factors that are frequently taken into account include livelihood creation, natural resource conservation, environmental impact reduction and assistance to disadvantaged groups.
The most secure route to funding is to design a project which is economically self-sustaining so that the outputs, whether they be products for sale or valuable services such as the ability to construct a building, are greater than the cost of running the project itself. In other words, conventional business mechanisms based on pursuit of profit are the most reliable in generating sustainable situations.
